“Kabbalistically, it is the sign of resurrection and completeness- in Hebrew tradition, it is called perfect.”

Trilliant ( Triangular Brilliant) & Triangular Step Cut Diamonds are one of the most unique high end fancy cuts.

The trilliant cut and triangular step cut (picture pending) is actually a generic term that refers to a diamond that is cut in the form of a triangle.
If you are looking for a truly unique, yet brilliant and fiery stone, here are some tips on the two triangular shapes.

The main and outstanding feature of the trilliant cut diamond is its distinct triangle form and slightly curved edges .Straight edges are less common. The trilliant cut is created with equal sides and usually contains 50 facets. Because of its unique and extremely fancy shape, the triangular cut diamonds are typically reserved for the upscale luxury market.

The triangular step cut differs from the trilliant (brilliant) because it is step cut, has straight edges with the corners cut off similar to the emerald cut step cut style. (picture pending)
Most consumers tend to feel comfortable purchasing classic style and traditional round brilliant diamonds for more formal occasions such as an engagement or wedding so a triangular shaped diamond is a break from the norm.

The triangular step cut is not as common being a relatively new type of cut developed about three years ago. The step cut style fits in nicely with those who are looking for an art deco look but even more funky.

When purchasing a trilliant cut diamond, one of the factors that you should consider is the depth of the stone. The depth of a trilliant cut diamond should be between 32 to 44 percent, but as with most fancy cut diamonds the choice of the actual shape and dimension is usually a matter of personal preference.

The reason why depth should be an important consideration is due to the fact that different depths will result in differing levels of brilliance, so it is important to keep this fact in mind.

Also a trilliant or triangular stone should have very good symmetry. A trilliant with only good symmetry may look dead and might have an open window see through effect.

The trilliant and triangular step cut look bigger in dimension than their carat weight denotes. For example Diamond Imports has a trilliant step cut weighing 3.14 carats H SI2 in a very good cut and very good symmetry measuring an extraordinary 10.65 x 9.57 x 4.66 mm deep priced at AUD$30,835 GST inclusive. ( AUD$9,820 per carat)

As a comparison a round brilliant diamond weighing approximately four carats would measure approximately 10mm in circumference. Diamond Imports has an excellent cut round brilliant Diamond 3.92ct H Si2 at approximately AUD$60,000 GST inclusive. ( AUD$15,300 per carat). It measures 10.20mm in diameter x 6.12 mm deep. The trilliant mentioned above measures approximately the same 10mm size spread but is not as deep.

The nature of the rough (macles) prior to cutting and polishing these diamonds however usually produces diamond in the Si1 to P3 clarity range. A VS2 or better is rare. Avoid P2 clarity in all cases. They are not durable, could break and look ugly. If selecting a P1 our advice is to view the diamond and have it checked prior to purchase. The Si2 or better clarity grade is recommended.

The good news is these diamonds in comparison to all the other diamond shapes cost considerably less.

Smaller matching pairs of trilliants make ideal shoulder stones for engagement rings and earrings.

Single solitaire trilliants make bold and impressive pendants.

If you are looking for possibly the most unique and attention seeking cut, the trilliant cut will definitely turn heads .The ring design would make a clear statement that the wearer of this beautiful style of cut is as individual as the diamond.

The three sides of the trilliant cut diamond allude to mysticism.

The triangle is one of the most easily recognized religious symbols in the West, most commonly associated with the Christian trinity or Freemasonry.

The triangle is the simplest geometric shape, and also the first purely theological symbol. To the ancient Pythagorean, the triangle was, as the first complete polygon, the womb of number and the essence of stability.

The upward moving triangle is sometimes called the blade (the chalice and blade figure ceremonially in many ritual magic operations). It is a symbol of aspiration or rising up, male force, and fire. It is purely phallic in origin. The triangle represents aspiration, rising force and the male principal.

The downward pointing triangle is sometimes referred to as the chalice. It is the symbol of water (as it flows downward), the grace of heaven, and the womb. it is one of the most ancient symbols of female divinity, as a representation of the genitalia of the goddess.

When combined, the triangles of fire and water form a potent symbol of balance and divine union. In western tradition, it is called the Seal of Solomon ( Star of David), and the symbols for air and earth are derived from the reconciliation of water and fire in this symbol.

The hexagram has an identical meaning in Hinduism and Buddhism as well, where it also represents the divine union, or perfect balance of male and female energies.

Kabbalistically, it is the sign of resurrection and completeness- in Hebrew tradition, it is called perfect. Occasionally, this conjunction forms a diamond or lozenge shape.

By selecting a beautiful trilliant cut diamond you would be part of the latest mass merchandising trend. The latest craze amongst prominent celebrities like Madonna, Demi Moore, Brittney Spears,Guy Ritchie and David & Victoria Beckham is the ancient mystical study of the Zohar which forms the basis of Kabbalah.

Another observation is the Chazaka (Hebrew : Strong/ Strength)… the concept of three.

As a habit once something happens three times then this establishes it as the normal way.

Christendom adopted this concept of unity by their belief in The Holy Trinity although this can be perceived by some as theologically inaccurate.

I compare the concept of a Chazaka to a single rope usually plaited in three strands giving it unbreakable strength.

And lastly the three magic words set the perfect example ” I love you” when you finally propose.

Only a trilliant cut diamond can symbolise the special number three via the Chazaka (Strength), spiritual connection and marital unity.

Marriage is a three ring circus: an engagement ring, a wedding ring, and suffering.
