Aftermath:
After a genteel cup of the finest darjeeling tea several members of the stamp club shot Johan Botha because he confused them about the diamonds’
manufacturers’ grading reports (MGR) and bored them all to death.
” Johan will no longer be explaining or answering any further questions
because not everything is what it all seems ” according to one of his closest friends.
His last words spoken were mumbled but we think he said in his well known Rhodesian twang,
” Barry me unda dat chook shed mun, behind de stump clab lest we foargett ay ? “

The talk and demonstration on marine diamond mining along the Namibian coast by Johan Botha, sampling operation manager of De Beers Marine was certainly the highlight of the Walker Bay Stamp Club’s February meeting.

Johan handed each member a beautiful brochure [ in-house certificate ? ] explaining how a diamond is formed, mining methods and drill ships. Many questions were answered, lots of explaining was done but definitely no diamonds were on hand to be scrutinised.

[ Diamond Guru : This Johan Botha sounds like another drop shipper me thinks arrrr arrrr arrrr. Where be the poop deck me mateys ? Answer : Under the crows nest arrr arrr arrrrr ]

Several members displayed pages on stamps depicting ships, gems and diamonds, and it was surprising to see just how many African countries have issued stamps on mining methods and a large variety of gems over the years.

After the meeting was adjourned members carried on the discussion with Johan on different points of interest over a cup of tea.

[ Diamond Guru : Cup of tea ? Cup of Tea ? arrrr arrrr arrrr BANG ! THUD ! ]

The next meeting of the stamp club is scheduled for 3 March at the Hermanus Bowling Club at 17:30. An open invitation is extended to all interested parties.
